Can a Golf Cart Get Wet?

Are you are planning to play some golf games during the rainy season? Then definitely you will be needing your golf cart.

Golf carts can be used in wet situations. Golf carts are specially decked with wipers and a tent-like roof that can protect you, the seats, and your golf equipment. But one thing that needs your complete attention is the cart’s battery. Batteries can get damaged with water.  Make sure to protect the batteries and lock them away properly in anti-moisture covering.

Certain Conditions to Consider While Taking your Golf Cart in the Rain where it Can Get Wet are:

The condition of the tires

Make sure your tires are not worn out. This may increase the hydroplaning threat. If a water layer gets in between a tire and the exterior of a road, hydroplaning takes place. When hydroplaning occurs, the tire loses its capacity to grip or create friction on the golf path causing your golf cart to lose entire control.

The weather or intensity of the rain

If you believe the weather is furious and the rain and storm are in high intensity it’s rather clever to wait for it to stop. When the rain gets reduced you finish your halt and start riding the golf cart.

The condition of the brakes and wipers

Make sure the brakes of the golf cart are all working properly. It is necessary in times of emergency when you need the brakes to slow down on slippery wet roads. This can only be helpful when the brakes have not worn out.

Another thing to consider is the wipers. They also need to be in proper condition. The wipers are used to clear the glass which will assess the state of the road. This is extremely important for safety.

Can a Golf Cart Be Left in the Rain?

A bit of rain won’t necessarily damage your golf cart, even if it’s an electrical one. In limited amounts, your golf cart can get wet. For instance, you are out golfing and suddenly there is a downpour, your golf cart will be safe. The tent-like roof of the cart is going to save the seats and prevent you from getting wet. But as golf carts are not covered vehicles, the wind or accelerated speed can spill a bit of mud and water into your cart.

But long-term storage of a golf cart in inclement weather can turn out to be a poor idea. If you leave your cart outside in rain for days, it can severely damage the engine and the delicate electrical elements of the cart. To be extra sure, you can cover the cart with a tarp that will save the cart from getting wet. But whatever it may be, storing the cart in rain for a long time will damage the car to an extent of discarding it.

Can an Electric Cart Get Wet vs. Gas Cart?

Both the electric and gas golf carts can get wet, but it’s not the best thing for either cart. In times of emergencies or by mistake, it is okay for electric and gas golf carts to get wet.

In an electric golf cart, saving the batteries should be the first priority. If you are considering storing an electric golf cart in rain you should remove the batteries and wires and cables from it. The rain or water can severely damage the batteries often leading to fires and bursts.

Whereas a gas cart is away from the headache of batteries, except you need to pump out the gasoline from the cart before the cart gets wet. If you are planning to store it somewhere, where there is a possibility of rain then you must remove the gasoline. The gasoline has a tendency to spill out and cause damage to other things.

Can you Store a Golf Cart Outside?

Simply, the answer is yes, but with proper covers and precautions. There is no way that you can’t store a golf cart outside. There are no rules to stop you from doing so. Storing a golf cart outside can be tricky if you have limited space.

For winter-prone places, the golf carts and their golf equipment need to be winterized. Winterizing the golf cart often prevents costly repairs and unnecessary expenses. Other simple precautions that have to be taken care of are:

  • While storing the golf cart outside, make sure that the cart doesn’t roll away.  The parking brake cannot be engaged, so you must secure the cart another way.
  • If the cart is not stored in a secured and safe place, you must remove your personal belongings. Remember to remove any perishable food and materials as well to prevent bacteria growth inside the cart.
  • Clean the cart thoroughly before storing, including its floors and upholstery. The tires need to be checked and re-inflated, if required.
  • Place your keys in a location that will be easy to remember when the winter is over.

Can you Wash a Golf Cart?

It is completely okay to wash a golf cart. But there are some steps you need to follow to do it effectively without damaging the cart.

  1. Prep the cart before you start washing it – you must remove all the covers and personal items.
  2. Remove and lock away the batteries. Batteries can be damaged severely by water while washing the cart.
  3. A golf cart’s exterior is mild and fragile so avoid scrubbing it with rough-surfaced items. Use soft tee shirts or old rags that won’t harm the paint or wear off the exterior surface.

What Parts of a Golf Cart Can Get Wet Without Damaging it?

If you are in a situation where your golf cart can get wet you should probably save all the interior parts of the cart. Though a golf cart’s exterior is not as effective as any normal vehicle, it’s still protective of rain. The interior elements combat risk when it comes to rain. The seats, the padding under the leg space, the exposed metals, wires, cables, and most importantly batteries. The batteries are at the most risk when it comes to washing your cart and the rain. They cannot get wet at any cost.  The chemicals in golf cart batteries may even catch fire when in contact with water or moisture. So, be extra careful with those.
