How to Take Care of a Golf Cart

Golf carts are becoming increasingly popular for both recreational and practical uses. From helping get around the neighborhood to carrying passengers and items around on a business or golf course, these vehicles require proper maintenance to remain in top condition.

It’s important to know how to take proper care of your vehicle in order to keep it running smoothly and efficiently. Proper maintenance is key when it comes to extending the lifespan of your golf cart, ensuring that you can enjoy many years on the course. Taking good care of your golf cart isn’t overly complicated or difficult, but it does require regular upkeep to help ensure your vehicle runs smoothly and safely.

We will be discussing the most important things to keep in mind when caring for your cart.  If you would like to know more, keep reading!

Caring for the Body of the Golf Cart

Caring for the body of a golf cart is an important part of golf cart maintenance. Depending on the type of golf cart you have, regular attention to its body should help keep it looking good and running smoothly.

Make sure not to use cleansers that are too abrasive!  Rinse thoroughly and dry with another soft cloth or towel. Regularly wiping down surfaces will help prevent corrosion from salt spray (if you live near the beach), dust, and water buildup. Be sure to take extra care around plastic trim pieces, emblem badges, and other special plating by cleaning them separately with lukewarm water and mild detergent specifically designed for golf carts. Additionally, touch ups using aerospace-approved sprays can be used to cover minor damage.

Regularly taking preventive measures and paying attention to detail will keep golf carts looking as new as possible, without having to resort to time-consuming repairs on the cart’s body later on.

Golf Cart Battery Maintenance

All golf carts need adequate golf cart battery maintenance in order to ensure that the golf cart’s batteries are functioning properly and providing enough power. Depending on how often you use your cart, the battery may require more frequent maintenance to prevent it from losing power due to age and use.

One of the most basic tasks for golf-cart battery maintenance is regularly checking the water levels inside the batteries – this ensures that the cells are adequately filled with electrolyte and ready for use.  Keep in mind that lithium ion batteries do not need to be filled with water – this is a lead-acid battery exclusive part of maintenance.

When golf carts are not in use for long periods of time, it is important to remember to regularly check the golf cart battery’s charge levels so that it does not become completely depleted.

Lastly, periodically cleaning golf cart batteries will help remove corrosion buildup on the terminals and increase their lifespan – this can be achieved through neutralizing the electrolyte with baking soda and water solution when necessary.

By following these basic guidelines, golfers can rest assured that their golf carts will remain reliable for years to come.  Keep in mind that lead-acid batteries require more maintenance than lithium ion batteries.  If you have lithium ion batteries, they require little to no maintenance.

Tire Maintenance on Golf Carts

Ensuring golf cart tires are in peak condition should be a priority for golf cart owners. Regular maintenance includes checking tire pressure and making sure there is adequate tread remaining on each golf cart tire. Golf cart tires should be inspected regularly to ensure that they are inflated correctly; checking the air pressure prior to each use can help maintain even tire wear, provide better overall handling, and help reduce fuel consumption.

Lubricating wheel bearings and replacing certain parts as needed can help minimize the wear and tear of golf cart tires, ensuring your ride remains stable and reliable.  Other golf cart tire maintenance activities include wiping off any brake dust or dirt as well as inspecting for signs of damage or uneven wear.

If you notice any unusual signs or symptoms such as leakage, jolting, vibrating or wobbling while driving, this could indicate a serious issue with golf cart tire maintenance and should be addressed immediately.

Investing effort into golf cart tire maintenance now can save you money and headaches down the road!

Where to Leave Your Golf Cart When Not in Use

Star Sirius Model Indigo Blue front viewWhen golf cart owners are not using their golf cart, it can be difficult to decide where to store it. Golf carts should always be stored in an area that is protected from the weather; if possible, out of direct sunlight and away from rain and other moisture.  You will want to store it on a level surface as well.

While it is possible to simply leave the golf cart behind or in front of your home, this can put it at risk of theft, vandalism, and damage from the elements. This could mean storing your cart inside a garage or shed on your property, but some golf courses offer golf cart storage facilities as an additional service.

Although indoors storage is best for golf carts, this may not always be an option. If storing outdoors, remember to cover the golf cart with a waterproof tarp when not in use. This will help prevent fading or discoloration from excessive sunlight exposure, as well as protect golf cart from dirt and any inclement weather conditions.
